The Universities of Wisconsin System Offices are consolidating the communication infrastructure by implementing Microsoft Teams Telephones. This strategic initiative aims to streamline communication, enhance collaboration, and improve operational efficiency across all administrative offices.

Key Objectives:

  1. Unified Communication Platform: Transition from traditional telephony systems to a unified communication platform that integrates voice, video, chat, and collaboration tools within Microsoft Teams.
  2. Enhanced Collaboration: Facilitate a more collaborative work environment by enabling seamless access to meetings, calls, and shared documents from any device, anywhere.
  3. Cost Efficiency: Optimize operational costs by consolidating multiple communication systems into a single, efficient platform.
  4. Improved User Experience: Provide a user-friendly interface that simplifies communication and boosts productivity for all staff members.

What to Know

What is changing?

One of the primary changes with the transition is the shift from Cisco to Teams as the platform for making and receiving calls within the UWSA. Instead of traditional hand-held phones, employees will be utilizing their laptops and headsets for phone communication. However, physical phones will still be available upon request. It’s important to note that staff phone numbers will remain unchanged during this transition.

When will this occur?

The transition will start in October 2024 with a pilot group and continue until the end of the year. The Office of Learning and Information Technology Services (OLITS) will notify staff of their assigned move date.

What do users need to do?

At this time, no action is needed by UW System employees. When action is needed by employees you will be contacted. Over the next weeks and months more information will also be added to the FAQs and Resource sections.
