Note: EAB offered multiple sessions over several days.
Description: Enrollment and student affairs leaders have traditionally relied on in-person summer orientations to decrease melt and build a sense of community before classes begin. But with campuses likely closed for much of the summer due to COVID-19, institutions must move orientation to an alternative format—and do so fast.
In this virtual working session, EAB staff and participants discussed revamping orientation with a small group of peers from both enrollment and student affairs. Participants had the chance to share their own ideas, explore how peers are reshaping their orientation programs, and help shape and direct EAB research on 2020 orientation. Topics included:
- How do we build virtual events that will appeal to students and show them what our campus has to offer?
- How do we convey expectations to students for university life, when they might be hundreds of miles away?
- How can we support advising staff as they transition to remote appointments?
- How can we best use student orientation leaders to drive engagement?
Target audience suggested by EAB:
- Enrollment and student affairs leader
