The UW System project team appreciates your commitment to student success, including adoption of the Education Advisory Board (EAB) Navigate platform. The platform is designed to enable advisers, faculty and support staff to provide students with more targeted, personalized, timely contacts and resources and to empower students to reach their goals. While Navigate users will extend beyond advisers, this project supports UW System 360 Advising priorities and strategies to expand high quality, proactive advising to improve retention and graduation rates.
Navigate benefits include:
- Targeted proactive case management and communications
- Students’ mobile access to guidance on academic and career planning
- Improved analytics to inform strategies supporting student success
The UW System project team is collaborating with UW institutions and EAB consultants to implement Navigate. Project team objectives include to:
- Facilitate cross-institutional opportunities for collaboration focused on emerging issues
- Address shared challenges, insights, strategies and solutions and provide system recommendations
- Leverage all Navigate implementations and create efficiencies
Webinars and on-site visits by EAB consultants and UW System project team representatives will begin in spring 2019. Early work will focus on technology integration. The focus later will shift to the advising workflow and student content, with advisers and students starting to use the system first.
Key Updates
Feb. 6, 2019: The UW System kick-off included UW institution project sponsors and owners, the UW System project team and EAB consultants.
March 2019: The UW System project team and EAB consultants identified recommendations for implementation.
March 7, 2019: A panel representing UW System early adopters, pictured and quoted below, and EAB presented and answered questions at the Board of Regents meeting.
“It’s about those students sitting out there wondering if anyone cares,” said Karen McLeer, Director of Retention and Academic Support at UW-Platteville. She explained that the system allows UW-Platteville advisers to spend more time on at-risk populations and to connect students with resources before they experience significant problems.
“Traditional advising treats all students the same,” added UW-Oshkosh Provost John Koker. “This allows us to put students in different categories with targeted support.” The system, he said, “helps us know when students are in trouble even before the students themselves know they’re in trouble.”
“We’re at the point where we can see definite increases in retention rates,” said UW-Milwaukee Provost Johannes Britz.
