UW-Platteville

Director, Teaching and Technology Center

More is being asked of Centers for Teaching and Learning, while the capacity of the Center becomes smaller. The delivery model of services needs to change from provision of professional development opportunities to one of collaboration campus-wide to provide the support that faculty truly need.

The biggest reward as a CETL Director still remains in those moments where we get it right and faculty think about something differently that ultimately changes the student experience in a way that promotes student learning.

I am part of the minority in this space, a faculty development specialist who never held a faculty position. I completed a PhD in my late 40s and chose an opportunity to join UW-Platteville in a faculty support role instead of a faculty role. Over the last 10 years, previous experience with leadership and organizational change strategies has propelled me to be in the right place at the right time to support faculty development as higher education experiences tremendous change.

The OPID Advisory Council provides connections. Smaller staff footprints at local institutions no longer allow for a plethora of professional development activities. THE OPID Advisory Council allows us to do those together.
