Universities of Wisconsin employees receive an excellent total rewards package to meet the diverse needs of employees. The main components include base pay and if eligible, employer contributions towards your health insurance, Health Savings Account (HSA) and retirement account. The purpose of this tool is to provide you with an estimate of your compensation and benefits with the main components included.
Base Pay:
Enter your expected annual base pay. If you are paid an hourly rate, multiply your hourly rate by the number of hours you expect to work annually (full-time employment is 2,080 hours). Your base pay includes a generous paid leave package including vacation, personal holidays and legal holidays (if eligible).

The value of your total rewards depends partially on which health insurance plan design you enroll in and whether you need coverage nationwide (Access Plans). Below are brief descriptions of your health insurance options:
- Health Plan: Uses a specific network of doctors, clinics and hospitals in a local geographic area. You must receive services within the network. Coverage is only available out-of-network for urgent and emergency care. Most services require you to pay a copayment before the plan pays. Has a lower deductible and higher employee premium than the HDHP.
- High Deductible Health Plan (HDHP): Uses a specific network of doctors, clinics and hospitals in a local geographic area. You must receive services within the network. Coverage is only available out-of-network for urgent and emergency care. Most services require you to meet the deductible before the plan pays. Has a higher deductible and the lowest employee premium. Includes a Health Savings Account (HSA).
- Access Plan: Provides freedom of choice for doctors, clinics and hospitals across the country (nationwide coverage). Your out-of-pocket costs are lower when in-network providers are used. Most services require you to pay a copayment before the plan pays. Has the highest employee premium.
- Access Plan HDHP: Provides freedom of choice for doctors, clinics and hospitals across the country (nationwide coverage). Your out-of-pocket costs are lower when in-network providers are used. Most services require you to meet the deductible before the plan pays. Has a higher employee premium than the HDHP; however, a lower employee premium than the Access Plan. Includes a Health Savings Account (HSA).
- Health Insurance Opt-Out Incentive: You may be eligible for up to a $2,000 per year Opt-Out Incentive if you do not need health insurance through the Universities of Wisconsin.
- Waive: This means that you do not need health insurance through the UW System and you are not eligible for the Opt-Out Incentive.
Eligibility: HDHP or Access Plan HDHP (with HSA) or Opt-Out Incentive
After you select a Health Insurance plan, you will be prompted to select with or without Uniform Dental and the coverage level (for example: single or family).
