Overview

The Office of Information Security oversees the security of UW System Administration’s information and supports the academic and research ambitions of the UW community. It works toward system risk reduction through the implementation of security policies and oversees the implementation of strategic information security initiatives. The Associate Vice President for Information Security is responsible for leading the development and implementation of a unified UW System information security program, manages the IT security team, and oversees the assignment of roles and responsibilities for information security program elements. Additionally, the Associate VP works towards expanding the scope of information security to a system-side responsibility and implementing enterprise risk management perspective.

Information Security Program

The purpose of the University of Wisconsin System information security program is to continue development and maintenance of an enterprise, systemwide program designed to ensure the confidentiality, integrity and availability of UW System Administration and institutions’ information assets from unauthorized access, loss, alteration or damage while supporting the open, information sharing needs of the academic environment. A robust information security environment is critical to enabling the UW System mission of developing human resources, discovering and disseminating knowledge and extending knowledge and its application beyond the boundaries of its institutions.
