MADISON, Wis. – University of Wisconsin-Superior Chancellor Renée Wachter today announced that the campus will accept a bid from SSC, Service Solutions Company, to provide custodial services for the campus in place of the existing staff. UW System President Ray Cross issued the following statement:
“University of Wisconsin-Superior is a valuable part of the UW System serving our northern communities, including many first-generation, international, non-traditional, and distance-learning students. We are committed to helping UW-Superior succeed in its mission of providing a top-notch educational experience both now and into the future.
“Decisions like the one announced today are never easy for campus leadership and I applaud Chancellor Wachter on the thoughtful and careful approach that she and her staff have taken. I know they will do everything they can to help the workers whose positions are affected to find new jobs within the community.
“This decision is part of a broader program prioritization effort being led by the Chancellor, one that will put the campus in a better position to serve its students in the future. By conducting a thorough review of its academic and non-academic programming, and initiating cost savings in both areas, UW-Superior is sending a strong message that it is fiscally responsible.
“The fact is every institution in the UW System is looking internally to find ways to save money and focus more resources into the classroom. As we ask the state to increase its investment in the UW System, we must also continue our commitment to finding efficiencies and cost savings where possible. The changes may vary by campus, but the goal is the same – to provide a quality educational experience at an affordable cost to students and taxpayers.”
