MADISON — Ronald M. Singer, associate vice chancellor for planning, budget and resource allocation and graduate dean at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside, has been named associate vice president for academic affairs with the UW System, effective July 16.
The appointment was announced by Al Beaver, interim senior vice president for academic affairs. In his new position, Singer will serve as Beaver’s chief deputy and will be responsible for providing leadership in the development and implementation of policies and procedures governing academic program approval and array. In addition, he will supervise the directors of the Office of Professional and Instructional Development, the Women’s Studies Consortium, the PK-16 initiative, and other academic planners. He succeeds Sharon James, who retired in 2000.
“I’m pleased that Ron is joining the System Administration,” said Beaver. “His broad background and extensive campus experience, plus his leadership ability, make him a great addition to the staff in Academic Affairs.”
Singer has been at UW-Parkside since 1973, when he accepted a faculty position in what is now the School of Business and Technology. He assumed his present duties in 1996, having served previously as chair of the Department of Accounting, Finance and Information Systems and interim dean of the school.
Singer’s background includes a B.S. degree in economics from the University of Pennsylvania (1967), a J.D. degree from the State University of New York at Buffalo (1970), and M.B.A. (1984) and Ph.D. (1989) degrees in accounting from UW-Madison.
Singer is a certified public accountant and is licensed to practice law in New York and Wisconsin (inactive). He was an assistant attorney general with the New York State Department of Law (1970-73) and an adjunct instructor of business law at the Rochester Institute of Technology (1971-73) prior to coming to UW-Parkside.
