MADISON, Wis. – University of Wisconsin System President Ray Cross today announced that Lori L. Stortz will be the UW System’s new chief audit executive, leading the Office of Internal Audit.
Effective July 1, Stortz will have responsibility for managing all internal audit functions at UW System, enterprise risk management, and compliance with state and federal laws and regulations.
Stortz, a certified public accountant, has served as audit partner and Milwaukee office managing partner at McGladrey LLP since 2007. She previously was an audit partner at Deloitte & Touche LLP and BDO USA, both in Milwaukee.
“I am delighted that we have hired an experienced professional who can help strengthen our audit and oversight functions for the UW System. Her expertise and experience align with furthering my goal of improving the university’s financial management and transparency of its financial operations,” Cross said. “She is a proven leader with a strong track record of building productive relationships.”
The chief audit executive reports directly to the Board of Regents through the Board’s audit committee as well as to President Cross.

I share the commitment of President Cross and the Regents to ensuring that the UW System exercises prudent and professional stewardship of its financial resources,” Stortz said.

Stortz earned a bachelor of business administration degree in accounting from UW-Whitewater.
Stortz serves on multiple boards in southeast Wisconsin, including the audit and compliance committee of Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin and the accounting advisory board for UW-Whitewater. She was named a winner of a Women of Influence Award in 2013 by the Milwaukee Business Journal.
