Katharine Lyall, President, University of Wisconsin System
“In addition to what the Governor and Joint Finance Committee have already proposed, funding for our statewide Economic Stimulus Package remains the UW System’s highest budget priority. Today’s action by the Senate Democrats puts that package into the budget. This is very helpful to the university but, even more importantly, it is vital to the state’s economic future. The caucus took other actions today that would also help the UW System. I am grateful for these actions and I encourage the full Senate to support the amended budget bill when it comes to a vote.”
Jay L. Smith, President, University of Wisconsin System Board of Regents
“The Economic Stimulus Package approved by the state Senate majority caucus is a crucial part of the UW System’s biennial budget proposal. It reflects our ongoing commitment to Wisconsin, by increasing the number of students in high-tech, high-paying fields. All of our institutions and their students would benefit from this package, and it has strong support from the Wisconsin business community, demonstrating that our economy will surely benefit from a strategic investment of new money in the UW System now and for years to come.”
