RE: May Board of Regents Meeting
The University of Wisconsin System Board of Regents will hold its next meeting on Thursday and Friday, May 4-5, in Van Hise Hall on the UW-Madison campus.
At the opening session of the Regents meeting on Friday, May 5, the Board is expected to host Gov. Jim Doyle, who will join Regents and UW System President Kevin Reilly for a conversation about the Wisconsin Covenant, as well as the university’s “Growth Agenda” for Wisconsin.
The two-day Board meeting begins Thursday, May 4, at 10 a.m. with the presentation of the 2006 Academic Staff Awards for Excellence, which annually recognize outstanding service by members of the academic staff on UW campuses.
The full Board session will continue with a presentation about the UW System’s strategic efforts to ensure equity and excellence by integrating diversity and accountability into all aspects of the university’s mission. The presentation will review several diversity initiatives already underway, and engage Regents in discussion about diversity and accountability goals for the future.
Regents will also hear an update on proposed initiatives that may be incorporated into the UW System’s 07-09 biennial budget request, including campus initiatives intended to further the “Growth Agenda” for Wisconsin, unveiled by President Reilly in February.
Both the Education and the Business, Finance and Audit Committees will meet in a joint session to hear the second annual report of the Wisconsin Partnership Fund for a Healthy Future. The Education Committee will then adjourn to learn about systemwide and campus efforts related to diversity and teacher education. The Business, Finance and Audit Committee will meet separately to consider a Growth Agenda for UW-Oshkosh, a proposal related to a vehicle allowance for university leaders, and a review of student segregated fees.
The Physical Planning and Funding Committee will consider several items related to capital projects at UW campuses, and an update on actions taken by the State Building Commission.
The Board of Regents meeting will begin Thursday, May 4, at 10 a.m. in Van Hise Hall. Friday’s meeting begins at 8:30 a.m. in the same location. An agenda is available in the Board of Regents archive.
