MADISON — The University of Wisconsin System Board of Regents will hold its regular monthly meeting Nov. 8-9 in Van Hise Hall on the UW-Madison campus. A complete agenda for the meeting is available on-line at wisconsin.edu by clicking on the “Board of Regents” link.

On Thursday, the meeting will open with three presentations at 10:30 a.m. in 1820 Van Hise. All regents are invited to attend the session, which will focus on the UW System’s federal government funding strategy, the Learning Innovations distance education enterprise, and the UW Systemwide Information Technology Plan.

At noon, the board will hear from Andrew Porter, a professor of educational psychology at UW-Madison and director of the Wisconsin Center for Education Research, on “The Role of Testing and High School Graduation Tests.” This luncheon meeting will take place in 1820 Van Hise, and interested persons are welcome to attend as observers.

At 3:30 p.m., or upon conclusion of its regular meeting, the Business and Finance Committee will convene in Room 4151 Grainger Hall, 975 University Avenue, for the board’s annual public forum on trust fund investments. The forum will begin with a presentation on socially responsible investing, recent shareholder proxy proposals, and a preview of emerging issues and the economic outlook for 2002. Public testimony will be received for one hour, starting at 4:30 p.m. All interested persons are welcome to attend and participate. Those who wish to speak should register in advance by calling (608) 262-2324. Registration forms will also be available at Grainger Hall. Oral remarks should be limited to two minutes. Written testimony is invited and encouraged.

The full meeting of the board is scheduled for Friday morning, starting at 9 a.m. in 1820 Van Hise. In addition to committee reports and related actions, Regents President Jay L. Smith and UW System President Katharine Lyall will both present reports. The latter will include a presentation on the missions of the UW Colleges and the Wisconsin Technical College System.

The next meeting of the Board of Regents is scheduled for Dec. 6-7 in Madison.
