MILWAUKEE — Sheldon B. Lubar of Milwaukee was elected today to a one-year term as president of the University of Wisconsin System Board of Regents. He succeeds Michael W. Grebe, of Milwaukee, who served as president since June 1994.
Also today, San W. Orr, Jr., Wausau, was elected vice president, succeeding Lubar.
Lubar is chairman and chief executive officer of Christiana Companies, Inc., and chairman of Lubar & Company, Inc., an investment and venture capital company in Milwaukee. He was appointed to the Board of Regents by Governor Tommy Thompson in April 1991, and has served as vice chair of the Board since June 1994. He also served as vice chair of both the Board’s Executive Committee and Business and Finance Committee, and was a member of the Audit Subcommittee.
Lubar received his undergraduate and law degrees from UW-Madison and an honorary doctor of commercial science degree from UW-Milwaukee. He is a former director of the UW-Milwaukee Foundation and president of the advisory council of the UW-Milwaukee School of Business.
Orr is an attorney and certified public accountant. He serves as chairman of the boards of Marathon Electric Manufacturing Company in Wausau and Wausau Paper Corporation in Mosinee. He was appointed to Board of Regents by Governor Tommy G. Thompson in October 1993. Orr chairs the Board’s 21st Century Implementation Committee and serves on the Executive Committee and UW Hospital Authority Board.
Orr received his undergraduate and law degrees from the UW-Madison. He is a former chair of the Board of Visitors of the UW-Madison School of Business, and currently serves as an officer and director of the Wisconsin Alumni Association.
