In response to several requests for additional support for fall semester course planning, Math Initiative June workshop facilitators have identified themes for several weeks’ worth of Active Learning office hours. Each of these sessions will launch with a brief presentation or demonstration, after which the remaining time will be dedicated to questions and discussion.
This focused office hour session will include a presentation on building community and setting expectations from day one. In this session, invited guest Leah Rineck will join us to share her expertise. While this discussion will emphasize examples and best practices in developmental math courses, the strategies will be applicable to any level.
To help shape the conversation, facilitators created a discussion board corresponding to each of the themes to solicit your greatest concerns. They ask that you up-vote–by clicking “like” underneath–any previous posts that express worries that you share, and that, should you feel something is missing in the list, you add a brief (one-sentence) description of the issue. (If you are an early contributor, feel free to return after others have had a chance to respond!)
Office hours are conducted via Collaborate Ultra and accessible through enrollment in the Canvas Active Learning for Equitable Instruction course (see office hours link on the home page of the course) or this direct link for those who already have enrolled.
