President Cross, along with Rep. Cindi Duchow, Rep. Mark Born, Rep. Shelia Stubbs, Sen. Luther Olsen, Sen. Pat Testin, and Sen. Jeff Smith, visited UW Health’s American Family Children’s Hospital on Wednesday, September 25, 2019. Representative Duchow organized the meeting to highlight the research being done related to pediatric cancer. The event concluded with a tour of the hospital.

Next stop for the “All in Wisconsin” tour will be UW-La Crosse on Wednesday, October 2, 2019. The event will showcase the incredible value this campus provides for students, families, and taxpayers. The day-long event will involve meetings with business and community leaders, direct engagement with students, and media opportunities to promote the benefits and value of the campus to its region. There are five remaining events scheduled through early December.  The dates are as follows:

  • UW-Oshkosh, Tuesday, October 22
  • UW-Stevens Point, Wednesday, October 30

‘Maps at the Capitol’,  presented by the Wisconsin State Agency Geospatial Information Committee (SAGIC) will be held on Wednesday, October 2nd at 9:00 a.m.  at the State Capitol in the North Hearing Room. UW staff are participating in the event. Along with six presentations, SAGIC members will exhibit additional work that state agencies have undertaken using geospatial technologies. See what projects different state agencies are working on together, and spend some time talking with the project experts. Maps at the Capitol Presentations will include (with involved agencies in parentheses):

  • LTSB’s Map & Geographic Services to the Legislature & How GIS Collaboration Makes Elections Run Smoothly (LTSB/WEC)
  • Opioid Crisis Health Consequences Prevention and Treatment Resource Allocation (DHS)

The Senate Committee on Universities, Technical Colleges, Children and Families will hold a public hearing on Wednesday, September 25 starting at 10:00 a.m.. The bills which relate to UW System will be:

The UW Missing in Action Recovery and Identification project hosted an open house on Thursday, September 19, 2019. Regent Torrey Tiedeman is involved with this project, which focuses on advancing the recovery of MIA service members by involving an academic blend of knowledge and research. In addition, Assembly Bill 452/ Senate Bill 446 relating to the UW Missing-in-Action Recovery and Identification Project was introduced on Friday, September 20. This bill received wide bipartisan support, and it provides funding to support this project. Follow this link to learn more about the bill.

President Cross spent the day on Wednesday, September 18, visiting several UW-Superior campus facilities and meeting with campus students and staff. He also attended the Swenson Scholars Dinner to pay tribute to Jim and Sue Swenson of the Swenson Family Foundation.  A full recap of the event can be found here.
