We’re here to get you career ready and future ready.
All UW universities have a career services office that helps students and alumni achieve their educational and career goals. Career services staff help you do the following:
- Explore career opportunities and how they are connected to academic programs
- Assess and develop career-ready skills
- Search for internship opportunities
- Create and refine résumés and cover letters
- Prepare for job fairs, networking events, and interviews
- Learn how to job search
- Identify on-campus and off-campus job opportunities
- Connect with employers
Additionally, career services offices across the Universities of Wisconsin regularly host job fairs and career-readiness workshops on campus, all free of charge. Career services staff can also help you if you are unsure about what major or career to pursue.
Career services offices often help to coordinate the First Destinations Surveys, which show what UW alumni do with their degrees after graduation. Check out the link below to view the survey results.
Explore Resources to Help You Decide on a Major or Career
Choosing an academic path to fit your interests and aptitudes isn’t always easy, especially when careers aren’t always directly linked to undergraduate degrees. Whether you are a current student, still deciding which UW to attend, or exploring what careers align with specific academic programs, you can take the MyMajors self-assessment to explore your options or confirm the major or career you are considering.
The MyMajors assessment will take about 10-15 minutes of your time. You will provide information about your aptitudes and respond to questions about your academic achievement, unique interests, and personal preferences.
Before starting, you will be asked to create an account. This will allow you to leave the assessment and continue where you left off at your convenience or come back at a later time and retake it.
Once completed, you will learn which majors, careers, and UW universities appear to be a good fit for you. This information will help guide your academic exploration and program selection.
Engage with Career Services Early and Often
To have the best possible career outcome, don’t wait until your senior year to connect with the career services office. Plan to engage with them throughout your educational journey to take advantage of their resources and opportunities.
- The more you know about the job market, the better prepared you will be to enter it.
- The more career-ready skills you have, the more appealing you will be to potential employers.
- The more you learn about what employers are looking for, the more likely you are to land your dream job.
Please note that Career Services offices are structured and named differently on each UW university campus.
