The University of Wisconsin-Superior Department of Education announces more student choice while earning an elementary educationearly childhoodspecial education, or early childhood special education license.

In the past, these licenses have required testing related to candidate content area knowledge centered solely on the Praxis assessment. Recent changes give teacher candidates their choice using content area GPA (based on specified courses embedded in the curriculum and designated course assessments) or using a passing score on the appropriate content area DPI-approved exam. As teacher candidates are preparing to become licensed educators in Wisconsin, they can partner with their advisor to select their appropriate choice.

Students can begin their collegiate experience at UW-Superior or transfer from another institution to continue on in a program of study to become a teacher. The university is also committed to guiding students to know how their program of study guides them for teacher licensure in the state of Wisconsin and beyond.

UW-Superior has a history in teacher preparation, beginning as a “normal school” in 1893, training schoolteachers. Today, we continue this legacy by preparing the next generation of educators, committing to the value of public education, and offering students choice to earn these licenses.
